Hello, My name is Gene Schmidt and I am a native Oneontan. I grew up in Oneonta and after graduating from OHS I joined the USMC and served 4 years. After being discharged, my wife and I returned to Oneonta where we raised our four children. During a recent trip to the D Day Memorial I began thinking that Oneonta doesn't have anything honoring the men from Oneonta who were killed in Vietnam. I later learned there is a plaque in the high school courtyard. However it has been missing for many years. With the help of the building principal it has been found andreinstalled. I am attempting to put a memorial in Neawha Park dedicated to just the men from Oneonta killed in Vietnam. The city has approved this. I need now to raise funds to pay for this. I am asking you for help in honoring and remembering these brave young men who gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country. Oneonta Doesn't Forget Its Own is the theme for this fund raising. Please help make sure these men are not forgotten. Thank you in advance for your support to honor these young men. Checks may be made to Oneonta Vietnam Memorial Fund and sent to me. Gene Schmidt 1715 St Hwy 7 Unadilla, NY 13849. Checks may also be sent to any branch of SFCU made out to Oneonta Vietnam Memorial Fund. Phone: 607-610-4030 Gene Schmidt
