TOWN OF ONEONTA FIRE DISTRICT Notice of Public Hearing RESOLUTION TO EMPLOY PAID FIREFIGHTERS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Town Law 176(18-a) a resolution to consider the employment of paid firefighters by the Town Of Oneonta Fire District will be presented to the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Town of Oneonta Fire District for its consideration. A PUBLIC HEARING will be held at Town Hall State Hwy. 23 on the 19th day of December, 2014 commencing at 7:00 PM for the purpose of considering the said resolution all persons interested in the subject concerning same. The Resolution to be considered is as follows: RESOLVED, that pursuant to New York State Town Law Section 176(18-a), the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Town of Oneonta Fire District does hereby determine that in order to protect the residents, businesses, and property owners of the Town of Oneonta Fire District , it is in the public interest of the Fire District to employ paid firefighters to serve the Fire District commencing in 215, and RESOLVED, that pursuant to New York State Town law Section 176(18-a), the Board of Fire Commissioners may: determine the chain of command in the fire department as between volunteer and paid firefighters; determine whether any paid firefighters shall have charge of apparatus and other equipment; determine whether the volunteer firefighters of the fire department shall act under the orders and control of such paid firefighters; establish staffing standards and schedules to address the needs of the Fire District; determine whether said paid firefighters shall be employed on a part-time or full-time basis; establish rules and regulations which set out the determinations regarding the aforementioned matters and; establish the amount of compensation and other benefits of such paid firefighter positions, and RESOLVED, that the anticipated number of paid firefighters shall be greater than four but less than twelve and the total annual amount to be spent for salaries or other compensation for such paid firefighters is estimated to be $700,000, but in any event, shall be in an amount no greater than the 2014 fire protection contract amount between the Town of Oneonta Fire District and the City of Oneonta.
