Once all sign elements have been finalized, the next step will be to implement them on a Wayfinding Pilot Project for the City. The Pilot Project has been identified as Main Street from Interstate 35 into Downtown Norman. This was primarily chosen because of the pending completion of the new Single Point Urban Interchange on I-35 at Main Street. The objectives of the current project are to 1) refine the detailed design of the system components for Normans Wayfinding System; 2) develop a set of plans suitable for bidding the Pilot Project for contractor fabrication and installation of signs on the Pilot corridor; and 3) assist in the development of bid documents for the Pilot Project. All signing should be appropriate from a multi-modal standpoint accounting for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The City of Norman is looking for a consultant team/firm with experience in the design of wayfinding sign components as well as the preparation and bid of wayfinding plans. Any inquiries regarding this Request for Proposal should be directed to David R. Riesland, P.E., City Traffic Engineer, P.O. Box 370, Norman, Oklahoma 73070, (405) 217-7762.
