LAST DAY FOR FILING PETITIONS ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS City School District of the City of Oneonta, New York The deadline for filing petitions to fill two vacancies on the Board of Education will be 4 p.m. on April 29, 2015. Voting will take place in the annual school district election on May 19, 2015. Each petition must contain the signatures of one hundred qualified voters of the enlarged district. Petitions will be delivered to the Board of Education office at 31 Center Street, Oneonta, New York before the deadline. The name of each candidate, for whom a petition has been properly filed, will appear in order on the voting machines as determined by lot drawing. The voters will also have the opportunity to write in the name of a candidate or candidates at the polls. To qualify for membership on the board of education, an individual must be a qualified voter in the district, a citizen, at least 18 years of age and not convicted of a felony. He or she must be and have been a resident of the district for at least one year prior to the election and must be able to read and write. He or she may not be a current employee of the school board, may not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family and may not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding one year. He or she may not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office. If a candidate for whom a nominating petition has been duly filed withdraws such petition, dies or becomes otherwise ineligible at a date which is later than 15 days before the last date for the filing of nomination petitions as stated above, the time for filing nominating petitions for such office shall be extended to 4 p.m. on the fifteenth day after the candidate withdrew, died or otherwise became ineligible, provided that no such nominating petition may be filed after 4 p.m. on the 7th day preceding the election.
