ANNUAL MEETING Notice is hereby given that the Annual Budget Hearing of the Margaretville Central School District will be held in the Board Room on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 7:00PM. Notice is also given that two (2) members of the Board of Education will be elected as follows: A member for a full term of three (3) years to fill the expired term of Kathryn VanBenschoten and a member for a full term of three (3) years to fill the expired term of Agnes Laub. Notice is also given that the vote upon the appropriation of necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the Margaretville Central School District for the ensuing year and to elect Members of the Board of Education will be held at the Margaretville Central School Cafeteria on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The polls will be open at 2:00PM and close at 8:00PM. Notice is also given that voting will take place on the following proposition: Resolved, that the Board of Education of the Margaretville Central School District is hereby authorized and directed to purchase one school bus, for a total not to exceed $44,000 to be paid from the Bus Reserve Fund, or so much thereof as may be necessary shall be raised by tax on the taxable property of the school district to be collected in annual installments, and to issue obligations of the district in accordance with Education Law and Local Finance Law. A copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, exclusive of the public money, may be obtained by any qualified voter in the District during the fourteen days immediately preceding the budget vote (May 5, 2015), except a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, at the office of the Superintendent of Schools from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Petitions nominating candidates for Members of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District at the Superintendent's office between the hours of 8:00AM and 5:00PM not later than the 30th day preceding the election (April 20, 2015). Forms providing the necessary information may be obtained from the Clerk. Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, must state the residence of each signer and of the candidate and shall describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent. The vote shall be by machine or absentee ballot. The hours during which the polls shall be kept open shall be from 2:00PM to 8:00PM prevailing time or for as long thereafter as necessary to enable qualified voters who are in the polling place at 8:00PM to cast their ballots. Personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law or Article 5 of the Election Law and no person shall vote whose name does not appear on the register of the School District. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law and has voted at an annual or special district meeting within the last four (4) calendar years, he or she is eligible to vote at this meeting; if a voter is registered and eligible to vote under Article 5 of the Election Law, he or she is also eligible to vote at this meeting. All other persons who wish to vote must register. Any person shall be entitled to have his or her name placed on the register in the office of the District Clerk from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on days when school is in session, provided that he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of the Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the school meeting for which such register is prepared. The register prepared by the Board of Registration shall be filed in the office of the District Clerk and will be open for inspection immediately upon its completion by any qualified voter of the School District during regular office hours on each business day until the date of the vote. Absentee ballots may be applied for at the office of the District Clerk. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or on or prior to May 18, 2015, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2015. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in the district office of the School District and will be open for inspection by the public during regular office hours until the date of the vote. Any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the ballot of any person on such list, by making his challenge and reasons therefor known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls.
