NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, BUDGET VOTE, BUS PROPOSITION AND ELECTION NOTICE is hereby given that that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Schenevus Central School District of the Towns of Maryland, Westford, Roseboom, Decatur and Milford will be held at the school on May 12, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. for the transaction of such business as is authorized by Education Law. NOTICE is hereby given that the Annual Meeting/Election to vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures, or any propositions involving the expenditure of money, or authorizing a levy of taxes, or any proposition duly presented in accordance with Election Law, as well as the election of a member of the Board of Education, shall be held at the school on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at which time said vote and election will be held between the hours of 12 noon and 9:00 p.m. A copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes and the tax exemption report may be obtained by any resident of the District at the District Office during the 14 days immediately preceding the vote, except Saturday, Sunday or a holiday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. NOTICE is also given that petitions nominating candidates for a five year term of office on the Board of Education must be filed with the District Clerk, Ashley Dadey, not later than Monday, April 20, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. This vacancy is caused by the expiration of the term of Dr. Kelly Gallagher on June 30, 2015. Petitions may be obtained at the district office. Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk and shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, and shall state the name and 911 address of the candidate and 911 address of each signer. AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the following proposition will be submitted for voter approval at such time: PROPOSITION Resolved that the Board of Education of the Schenevus Central School District is hereby authorized to undertake the acquisition of one 24-passenger school bus with wheelchair lift at an estimated maximum cost of $75,000, and one 65-passenger school bus at an estimated maximum cost of $106,500, all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $181,500, less trade-in value, if any, and that such costs, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments; and, in anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed such estimated maximum aggregate cost shall be issued, or the school district may enter into an installment purchase contract if the Board of Education determines that it is in the best interest of the school district to finance the purchase in that method. Notice is also given that any proposition that is required to be included for vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, stating the 911 address of each signer, which the proposition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than thirty (30) days before the date of the election as set forth in this notice unless a greater number of days is required by statute. Any proposition shall be rejected by the Board of Education if the purpose of the proposition is not within the powers of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required for the proposition, and such proposition fails to include the necessary specific appropriation. Applications for absentee ballots for said annual election are available at the District Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Completed applications are to be submitted to the Clerk of the Board of Education at least 7 days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the U.S. of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, and (3) resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election. The School District may require all persons offering to vote at the budget vote and election to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law 2018-c. Such form may include a driver s license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the School District may also require all persons offering to vote to provide their signature, printed name and 911address. A list of persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until the date of election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reason for the challenge. Such lists shall be posted in a conspicuous place during the election, and any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the absentee voter's ballot or a person on such list, by making this challenge and the reason for such challenge known to the inspectors of the election before the close of the polls.
