Legal Notice Public Notice of the Availability of the Administrative Record File and the Proposed Plan for the Former Fort Wolters Waste Disposal Area, Mineral Wells, Texas The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the availability for public review of the Administrative Record file and Proposed Plan for the Former Fort Wolters Waste Disposal Area. The disposal area is located at the southwestern tip of Lake Mineral Wells and directly south of the intersection of Higgenson and Wright Streets. The Administrative Record file contains reports and documents pertinent to the selection of the preferred alternative. The Proposed Plan identifies the preferred alternative of No Action. The Corps conducted environmental studies at the Former Fort Wolters Waste Disposal Area as part of the federal requirements for the Formerly Used Defense Site. The studies indicated that Department of Defense activities at the former waste disposal area resulted in the release of chemicals of concern. These studies have determined that there is no risk to human health or the environment related to the chemicals detected in soil and groundwater. A compact disk containing the files is available for review at the Boyce Ditto Public Library, 2300 Martin Luther King Blvd, Mineral Wells, Texas 76067 during normal business hours. The Administrative Record file will be updated as the Formerly Used Defense Site project work progresses. The public is encouraged to provide comments and questions concerning the investigations and the Proposed Plan. A Public Meeting will be held at the Best Western Club House Inn and Suites located at 4410 Highway 180 E, Mineral Wells, Texas 76067 on April 28, 2015 starting at 7:00 PM. The public comment period closes on May 15, 2015.
