NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION JEFFERSON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Public Hearing of the qualified voters of the Jefferson Central School District, Towns of Jefferson, Blenheim, Gilboa, Harpersfield, Kortright and Summit; Counties of Schoharie and Delaware, State of New York, will be held at the Jefferson Central School Cafetorium on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 7:30 p.m, for the presentation of the budget document. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that said budget vote and election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 between the hours of 12 noon and 8 p.m. prevailing time at the Jefferson Central School lobby at which time the polls will be opened to vote upon the following items: 1.To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2015-2016 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the district. 2.To authorize the Board of Education to purchase one (1) 60 passenger bus at a maximum cost not to exceed $113,000; and to raise so much thereof as may be necessary by the levy of a tax upon the taxable real property of said School District; and to collect said sum as provided by law; and, in anticipation of such tax, to issue obligations of said School District 3.To elect one member to the Board of Education, for a five year term commencing July 1, 2015 and expiring on June 30, 2020, presently held by Peter Pochily, whose term expires on June 30, 2015. 4.NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a copy of the statement of estimated expenses for the ensuing year may be obtained by any taxpayer in the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. beginning Monday, May 4, 2015. AND FURTHER NOTICE is given that petitions nominating for the office of the Board member must be filed with the District Clerk no later than the close of school (4 p.m.) on Monday, April 20, 2015. Nominating petitions must be directed to the District Clerk, must be signed by at least twenty-five qualified voters of the district, must state the name and residence of the candidate, and must describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including at least the term of office and the name of the last incumbent. Nominating petitions are available at the District Office during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. excluding weekends and holidays. AND FURTHER NOTICE is given that any proposition that is required to be included for vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters, stating the residence of each signer, which proposition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than the close of school (4 p.m.) on Monday, April 20, 2015. Any proposition shall be rejected by the Board of Education if the purpose of the proposition is not within the power of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required for the proposition, and such proposition fails to include the necessary specific appropriation. AND FURTHER NOTICE is given that applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable from the District Clerk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least (7) seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be picked up personally by the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. prevailing time, on May 19, 2015. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the office of the District Clerk on and before May 19, 2015, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the Election Inspector before the close of the polls.
